Florida Taekwondo Open Tournament - Saturday, November 5, 2022
Coordinate extra preparing for and attending the tournament with other students -
Get a group together for some extra training - NO sparring without an instructor’s supervision - talk to Mr. McMurray about good exercises to go on your own time.
Coordinate going together to take pictures, videos, and cheer on another on. Maybe then get some food together after the tournament.

Notes about the tournament:
The main categories to compete in are: Forms, Breaking, Weapons, and Sparring. There are also: Team Form, Pair Poomsae (forms), Speed Kicking, Highest Kick Category, and Power Breaking - anyone wanting to compete in the additional categories should first speak with Mr. McMurray.
Forms - Open to all styles! Show off the form you feel strongest in. It is usually best to show off your current form or the form right underneath your rank, as each form gets a little more dynamic per rank.
Breaking - breaking on the fewest attempts is the most important factor! Then, it is important to consider more dynamic breaks for more points. This tournament requires participants to use both a hand and foot technique for breaking, so make sure to review the rule book.
Sparring - Please review handbook for details to make sure you are prepared with proper gear and know the rules. The style of Sparring in this competition is a little different than what we do in class; it like a combination of light contact class sparring and point sparring.
Colored belt matches are one minute. Black Belt matches are two minutes.
Points are counted up during the the matches and winners are announced at the end of each match.
COLORED BELTS ARE NOT PERMITTED HEAD KICKS!
Target area = body only (except Black Belt light kicks to the back/sides of the head)
Punch = 1 point
Kick = 2 points
Turning Kick = 3 points
Head kick = 3 points
They will also equip competitors with an electric scoring system.
Self-control is heavily emphasized in this competition. Remember to be careful and respectful with your words and actions, as you are representing our TKD Family, your family’s name, and most importantly, yourself.
If enough students are interested in Sparring competition, the structure of our Sparring Class and One-Steps Class will be altered to help better prepare students for the competition. As our school does not have an electric scoring system, we can count points continuously with old-fashioned style with pen and paper. Should the students want to have an electric score-keeping system, we can do fund-raising events as a TKD Family to purchase one.
